Foot Scan & Orthotics

What is a Foot Scan?

A FOOT SCAN is a computerised pressure pad which assesses your walking and if appropriate your running pattern providing visual graphics; this is more accurate than both observation or video analysis

Why do I need a Foot Scan?

Longstanding and recurrent pain is often related to faulty foot mechanics. Abnormal foot patterns cause stresses that can lead to numerous foot problems as well as leg, knee, hip, spinal pain including neck pain and headaches. As the saying goes ‘The thigh bone is connected to the hip bone and the hip bone is connected to ……. and so on e.g. pain in the knee may be caused by excessive pronation (rolling inwards) in the foot. This will be highlighted by the foot scan which is a good diagnostic tool.

How we can help

At Cotswold Physiotherapy  we use one of the industry’s leading Gaitscan systems to assess exactly how your foot functions during gait as you walk or run across a pressure plate. This enables the physiotherapist to have a clear picture of your foot biomechanics and determine the effect this is having on your ankles, knees, hips and back. It also helps to determine if you would benefit from wearing custom-made foot orthotics.

Have some Questions about Gait Scan?

There really is not that much difference between the two sessions. The Ohi Gait Scan system allows our team to analyse your gait and recommend the appropriate orthotics based on some simple questions and the results of the scan. In both sessions our team will take you through the results and the make recommendations based on your scans.

If you are being scanned by a physiotherapist, they will be able to offer additional guidance and advice based on your medical history. Our physio may also carry out a quick examination of your feet and posture.

Once you arrive for your appointment our team will greet you and show you into the treatment room. You will be asked some questions about your health, focussing on any conditions which may be related to your gait. You will also be asked about activities and sports you take part in.

You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks. You will first walk over the pressure plate with one foot, then the other. If the scan looks good and you are happy, the scan will be saved. You will then be asked to stand on the pressure plate, with both feet, for 30 seconds. That’s it, scanning is all done!

Our team will then print your results and take you through them, what they mean and the recommended course of action.

Absolutely, the scan results are yours to keep. We can provide you with a colour printout or email you a copy.

Sorry, the offer of £25 OFF your orthotics is only valid with Technician scans.

Don’t worry. We are so confident that your orthotics will benefit you, we offer free adjustments. If you are still having any issues after an adjustment, we offer a free rescan Techniotion Gaitscan to reassess your condition.

Ohi orthotics are guaranteed for 5 years.

Ohi orthotics will work in most shoe types. For specialist shoes, Ohi has developed specialist orthotics to ensure the best fit in a range of shoe types.

If you take part in different sports and need different orthotics for different specialist shoes – such as cycling and football – we offer an extra 10% discount on each additional set purchased.

What are Orthotics?

You may require prescriptive orthotics to help your feet function more efficiently. Our feet and ankles are the foundation for the overall posture of the body. Weak or faulty foundations lead to many problems higher up the body. Orthotics are orthopaedic devices which you put in your shoes. They are custom made for you and help control abnormal foot movements such as excessive pronation (rolling inwards) and excessive supination (rolling outwards). As your foot sits on the orthotic it is gently directed into the best position allowing correct foot function when standing, walking or running. They provide support, control, absorb shock and relieve pressure on uncomfortable or sore areas.
